Yesterday:
“Papa, when did we live in the little house?”
“When Cooper was a baby. What do you remember about the little house?”
“Why didn’t the little house have toys for baby Cooper?”
As my heart breaks, I reply, “Baby Cooper had toys just like baby Waverly has toys.”
This morning:
“Papa, did the little house have a dishwasher?”
“Yes.”
“And a kitchen table and cabinets and countertops?”
“Yes.”
“And an apple tree?”
“No, the little house didn’t have an apple tree.”
“Why? Houses need apple trees.”
